The MBA Department of Ambalika Institute of management & technology, Lucknow organized a week-long workshop on “Industrial Disputes and its causes’’ which included all the issues related to industrial dispute whether it’s the management or labour or related to the security of labours. The act related to labour welfare were also a part of the workshop.

We invited Mr. Bharat Khanna, Managing director, Stallion Auto, who is also an Ex- Tata Motor employee who shared his experiences on disputes and answered all our queries. We had Ms. Bhawana Joshi, Asst. Professor, MBA Dept. AIMT, Lucknow as the internal speaker on the same topic. The HOD placement Mr. Prashant Saxena of AIMT who has corporate experience in handling disputes, shared his experience while he was working at Tata Motors related to Singoor plant and Manesar dispute.

The workshop on INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS AND INDUSTRIAL SETTLEMENT enhanced our knowledge on the industry. Everyone had some knowledge of the industry but the process and methods involved were a revelation. This workshop educated us on the various concepts, scopes, objective and approach of industrial Relations.

Its objectives mainly include:

  • To promote Harmonious relation among labour management
  • To gain employee retention
  • To increase productivity
  • To increase employee morale
  • To reduce industrial conflicts
  • To deal with problems mutually
  • To promote industrial democracy etc

Coming back to Industrial Dispute, it told us much about what actually causes Industrial Dispute Like difference in opinions and views, status difference, legal and political factors, economic causes, management practices etc. It also made us aware about the various machineries involved in settling these disputes from the industry point of view.

The various Machineries available in settling and resolving these disputes are:

  • Court Of Enquiry
  • Adjudication
  • Collective Bargaining
  • Trade unions
  • Joint consultants
  • Standing orders
  • Code of disciplines

We also gained knowledge about the labour welfare and working conditions that should be provided for smooth performance of task. Labour welfare includes overall welfare facilities designed for the well-being of employees and to uplift their living standards.

Labour welfare can be summarised in dealing with:

  •  Working environment
  • Additional Services
  • Canteen facilities
  • Bonus etc

The workshop also provided us with knowledge on social security. Social security is a program in which government provides money to people who are unable to work because they are old, Disabled and unemployed.

The scope of social security includes:

  •  Medical care
  • Sickness benefits
  • Unemployment benefits
  • Old age benefits
  • Family benefits etc

Awareness on these topics was to enhance knowledge in various aspects of the Industry. It was an interactive and informative workshop.
